Section 455 - Public Bathrooms and Restrooms
455.01 Public Bathroom Defined. A bathroom or restroom located in a
non-residential building or in a residential building, but not within a dwelling
unit.
455.02 Construction.
Subd. 1
Materials. All public bathrooms shall be constructed of materials which are
impervious to moisture, bacteria, mold or fungus growth. The floor to wall
joints shall be constructed to provide a sanitary cove with a minimum radius of
3/8 inch. The entire floor shall be ceramic tile. All wall surfaces within 24
inches of a water closet or urinal shall be ceramic tile to a height of 48
inches.
Subd. 2
Plumbing, Ventilation, and Equipment. All public bathrooms shall be provided
with mechanical ventilation with two cfm per square foot of area, a minimum of
15 foot candles of illumination, a hand washing sink equipped with hot and cold
running water under pressure, a floor drain, a sanitary towel dispenser, a
toilet tissue dispenser and a refuse receptacle.
455.03 Maintenance. Floors, walls, ceilings, water closets, hand washing sinks and
urinals shall be kept in good repair and maintained in a clean sanitary
condition. Sanitary hand cleaning agents, sanitary towels and toilet tissue
shall be provided at all times. Refuse receptacles shall be emptied and refuse
collected as required.
