Braemar, Edina Country Club to host 21st Minnesota Golf Association
Mid-Amateur Championship
Edina, Minn., Sept. 11, 2008 -- Braemar Golf Course and Edina Country
Club will share in the host duties for the Minnesota Golf Association (MGA)
Mid-Amateur Championship, set for Sept. 22 - 24. The Mid-Amateur is one of
the MGA’s "major" championships and more popular events with up to 240
golfers competing annually. In order to qualify, participants must be at
least 30 years of age and have a USGA Handicap Index of 6.4 or lower.
This year, the field consisting of 244 of the state’s best mid-amateurs
will be split in half for the first two days of the event. Each golfer will
play a round of 18-hole stroke play on Monday, Sept. 22 and Tuesday, Sept.
23. Golfers will play one round at Braemar and one round at Edina Country
Club. The top 60 players plus ties will come together and tee off for the
third and final 18-hole round at Edina Country Club on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
The golfer who posts the lowest total score after 54 holes will be named the
champion.
“Some great golf will be played at two equally fine venues,” said Braemar
Golf Course General Manager and MGA President John Valliere. “These two
Edina courses will work in harmony with the MGA to conduct yet another
premiere golf event in Edina. Edina truly is the home to Minnesota golf!”
Spectators are welcome throughout the event at both locations at no
charge. Golfers will begin teeing off at 8 a.m. each morning. This will be
the fourth time the Mid-Amateur Championship has been held in Edina, but the
first time at Braemar. Edina Country Club played host to the inaugural
Mid-Amateur Championship in 1988 and also hosted the event in 1993 and 2001.
