Municipal Liquor Food Drive a success for Edina Liquor, VEAP
Edina, Minn., Nov. 13, 2008 -- Minnesota’s first-ever Municipal Liquor
Food Drive proved to be successful for Edina Liquor and its food shelf
beneficiary, Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP), as well as
multiple food shelves across the state.
During the food drive, which took place Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, Edina
Liquor collected a combined 905 pounds of food at its three locations. All
food items collected were donated to VEAP, a local non-profit agency serving
low-income, elderly and disabled persons in the communities of Bloomington,
Edina, Richfield and South Minneapolis.
Edina’s Grandview store collected 425 pounds of food while the 50th &
France and Southdale stores collected 310 and 170 pounds respectively. As of
Nov. 7, over 15,000 pounds of food were collected statewide with two-thirds
of participating cities yet to be counted.
Once the final count is complete, the individual store that collected the
most food over the course of the month will earn an additional $2,000
donation to their local food shelf of choice. The food drive was sponsored
by the Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association and Coors Light and was
coordinated with municipal liquor stores in 120 cities statewide.
“Our customers showed a commitment to giving back to those in the
community who are less fortunate,” said Edina Liquor Operations Director
Steve Grausam. “This food, along with the rest of the food collected across
the state, will be very beneficial to many families over the holiday
season.”
