Edina Liquor to take part in first-ever Municipal Liquor Food
Drive
Edina,
Minn., Sept. 18, 2008 -- Patrons
of Edina Liquor will have the opportunity to give back to their community
this fall during the first-ever Municipal Liquor Food Drive, sponsored by
the Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association (MMBA) and Coors Brewing.
The
food drive will run from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31. Customers are asked to bring
non-perishable canned goods or dry food donations to any one of Edina
Liquor’s three locations. Food items brought to Edina Liquor will be donated
to Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP), a local non-profit agency
serving low-income, elderly and disabled persons in the communities of
Bloomington, Edina, Richfield and South Minneapolis. As an added incentive
to donate, customers bringing in five or more items will receive a 10
percent discount on their purchase. The discount will not be applied to
product-of-the-month specials or close-out items.
MMBA and
Coors Brewing are coordinating the event with municipal liquor stores
statewide. The individual store that collects the most food over the course
of the month will earn an additional $2,000 donation to their local food
shelf of choice.
“As a
city-run liquor store, we have a responsibility to do much more than just
sell liquor,” said Edina Liquor Operations Director Steve Grausam. “This is
about helping people -- and giving others the opportunity to help people in
their community.”
Edina
Liquor has always been committed to giving back to the community. Each year,
over $1 million is put back into the City’s coffers to support public
amenities like Braemar Golf Course, Braemar Arena, Edina Art Center and many
other parks and facilities.
