Edina kids of all ages invited to the polls Nov. 4
Edina, Minn., Oct. 23, 2008 -- Election Day is less than a week away and
Edina moms and dads are reminded to bring their kids with them to the polls
on Nov. 4. For the first time, Edina youth will take part in Kids Voting, an
initiative intended to promote the importance of voting and civic awareness
among tomorrow’s leaders. A Kids Voting poll will be open from 4 to 8 p.m.
at all polling locations in Edina.
Edina kids of all ages are invited to cast their votes for their favorite
national and local candidates. Edina parents and guardians wishing to share
the democratic process with their children should plan to vote between 4 and
8 p.m. at their normal polling location. A “Kids Voting” poll will be
set-up outside of each of the adult polls in Edina. Kids Voting Election
Judges will be present to guide kids through the process and answer
questions. All children taking part in Kids Voting must be accompanied by a
parent or guardian at the polls.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss candidates and issues
with their children to help make Kids Voting a true family affair. Kids
Voting aims to generate an excitement for voting and civic engagement among
children that extends well into adulthood.
Kids Voting Edina is a sub-segment of Kids Voting Minnesota and Kids
Voting USA and is a joint effort of Edina Public Schools, the City of Edina
and Connecting With Kids, with help from multiple sponsors in the business
community.
