The Utilities Division will be flushing hydrants in the City of Edina
beginning Monday, April 27. Hydrant flushing will take place Monday through
Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for approximately Two weeks. (Random
hydrants are also flushed throughout the year as weather and water demand
allows.)
In an attempt to minimize the impact on residents, hydrants will be flushed
as follows:
April 27 – May 1 East of Highway 100
May 4 – May 8 West of Highway 100
The above schedule is approximate. For up-to-date flushing information,
please call the Public Works
Hotline at 952-826-0375.
Flushing allows the Utilities Division to purge rust and stagnant water from
the distribution system. In addition, it allows the Division to identify
hydrants in need of maintenance.
Due to the hydrant flushing, it is inevitable that some residents will
receive rust-colored water that could stain laundry, but it is safe to
drink. You should check for signs of discoloration prior to washing clothes.
If the water is discolored when you turn on your tap, simply run the water
until it is clear. Because, the water system is a single pressure zone it’s
possible to cause red water problems in any area of the city while flushing.
